Gilbertie’s Natural Home Fragrances are back!
Our loyal fans spoke, and we listened! Owner Sal Gilbertie is excited to share the holidays with you and your loved ones by re-releasing three of our signature holiday scents. Back by popular demand are Cranberry Cinnamon, Apples & Spice, and our most requested fragrance, Balsam Eve.
Sal Gilbertie is the third-generation proprietor of Gilbertie’s Organics, a 102-year-old company established as a flower shop in 1922 in Westport, Connecticut, and that today continues to operate at the same location as Gilbertie’s Garden Center. Sal expanded wholesale operations in the mid-1980’s, when he began a greenhouse farm in Easton, Connecticut, which grows and distributes USDA organic herb plants and a produce line of edible flowers, microgreens, and salad blends throughout the East Coast. Five generations of Sal’s family members have worked or are working at the two locations to bring the highest quality plants and products to Sal’s customers.
The essence of the home fragrance line comes down to Sal’s love of the scents of nature, which began during his childhood, when his father and grandfather grew cut flowers. As he took the helm of the business in the early 1960’s, herbs and their fragrances soon joined the floral scents in the shop and garden.
Hoping to bring the wonderful scents of his world to others, Sal worked with a perfumer to develop a natural home fragrance line that Gilbertie’s ran successfully from the mid-1980’s through the mid 1990’s. The success of the fragrance line inspired one of Sal’s eight books, Herbs for the Holidays (1993), which highlighted his love of decorating and filling his home with the scents and textures of nature.
In recent years, as the holidays approached, devoted fragrance fans reached out to request Balsam Eve and other fragrances, and so Sal has started his latest venture, a new home fragrance business that will be selling some of the old favorites.
